Hello,

I'm Shoubhik. I work in culture. I make music, as part of Los Alamos and White Heath and previously, I've worked for London Sinfonietta, Barbican Centre, Nesta and The National Archives. From November 2022 I will be heading up the Arts programme at Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

As a grantmaker, I want to be visible and accountable to the artists and cultural organisations who might want to apply to us for funding. One way I can do this is by sharing what I'm doing & thinking, how I am developing my practice as a funder and what kinds of conversations I'm having.

So, here you'll find a public lecture I gave at Goldsmiths' University which summarises my analysis of the cultural sector and my motivations for changing it. You can also read my job application and the presentation I gave as part of my interview for my job at Paul Hamlyn Foundation and below you'll find writing I've done since I started in the role, which give some indication of the work I'm doing at the moment.

Am I making sense? - initial thoughts on grantmaking, socially just arts philanthropy (is it a thing?), internal Paul Hamlyn Foundation stuff

Remember, circles are better than lines - if time is circular then can progress be linear? If progress isn't linear, then how should grantmakers make decisions? Thoughts on this, inspired by a gig and sharing by jazz musician Sarathy Korwar
